Important & useful information on VCI products

  • Corrosion is the natural mechanism by which metal returns to its original state of ore.
  • VCI chemicals are a class of corrosion inhibiting compounds which have sufficient vapour pressure to release molecules from the compound into the air to protect package from corrosion. VCI comes in many substrates like paper, film, powder, oil and so on. Every substrate has its own functioning.
  • Presence of VCI can be felt only by with its typical smell or otherwise by testing in salt spray or humidity test for Vapor Inhibiting Ability.
  • Protective atmosphere is build up depending on the substrate of material used as a carrier for VCI and the temperature i.e. higher the temperature faster is the protective atmosphere builds up
  • Metals already subjected to the corrosive process are offered a certain amount of protection by VCI materials. Corrosion already present cannot be repaired with the VCI other special rust remover is required to remove rust.
  • Our VCI products are compatible with each other i.e. where two different VCI products are used it should be of one manufacturer as it is already tested and proven.
  • Metal should be cleaned before packing with VCI material.
  • Closer the metal from VCI product betters the corrosion protection.
  • Avoid direct contact of metal parts from any wood or corrugated box packing.
  • From strictly a corrosion inhibitor standpoint, paper has been a better inhibitor of rust due to the way that the VCI is impregnated into the paper and is released into the air and onto the product in comparison to VCI film.
  • It is extremely important that all workers wear gloves not only to protect their hands,But also to eliminate acidity and moisture from transferring onto the part.
  • It is recommended not to store VCI paper or polyethylene products more than two months and should be stored in its original packaging even after using part of the quantity.
  • The average life of a VCI product is directly related to the environment as being volatile in nature so it should be stored in a cool place.
  • Please keep laminated or printed side of vci paper and film as outer side of the packing and opposite side as inner side in contact with the job to be packed.
